Here’s Lily was written by Nancy Rue and is the first book in The Lily Series. Who is Lily? She is a 6th grader, who has a little bit of all of us in her. Everyone went through that awkward stage in school right?  I remember it and I bet you do too. Well, Lily is right in the middle of it. She can’t seem to figure out her  red hair and doesn’t like her light skin tone. She compares herself to her best friend, who happens to be almost the opposite of her: African American with cute dimples. Here is a basic synopsis:

In this fun, entertaining story, readers meet awkward sixth grader Lily Robbins who, after receiving a compliment about her looks from a woman in the modeling business, becomes obsessed with her appearance and with becoming a model. As she sets her sights on winning the model search fashion show, she exchanges her rock and feather collection for lip gloss, fashion magazines, and a private “club” with her closest friends. But when the unthinkable happens the night before the fashion show, Lily learns a valuable lesson about real beauty.

My review:

I loved the book. Lily is so cute and so like me when I was younger. I lacked some confidence in elementary school but kind of grew out of it. I know what it feels like to feel “off” so to speak. I love how Lily realized despite any trials she would be put through, as long as you have “God-confidence”, everything would be the way God planned it to be. I had never even heard the word God-confidence but its perfect. This is definitely something I would recommend that any young child read because it will teach them what to do around bullies and how to carry yourself but most of all, it will teach them how to gain there “God-confidence”. I wish I could have read this book when I was younger.
