This weekend should have been super stressful for me and my family but surprisingly, it wasn’t. Two things happened.. one thing we were expecting, and the other we were not. Let me explain.
I got off of work like normal on Friday and picked up the boys from the babysitter. Hayden asked me if meemaw (my mom) was in town yet. She was on her way to pick up Hayden and my brother to head back to Rochester NY (my hometown). He was so excited to be spending the week with my family. We headed to target so we could buy him some new flip flops before he left. On the way home, we were hit with a huge storm. Have you been watching the news? Ohio has been having some severe weather the last couple of days and our county was hit the hardest with power outages. Yup, you guessed it… we’ve been without power since Friday afternoon.
This is a photo of our tree in the front yard. We are so lucky there was no damage to the house.
I figured we’d just wait it out since my mom was coming into town. My computer was fully charged so we ordered pizza and watched a movie before the boys went to bed. My mom came in late so I waited for her then headed to bed myself. It was about 75 degrees outside but muggy so not super comfortable to sleep but not too bad. I got up early (around 6:30am) on Saturday morning because I hadn’t packed Hayden’s clothes yet and some of it was still wet from the washing machine. I went to the laundry mat and dried those so he has clothes to leave. Then I headed to Krispy Kreme to get some donuts and coffee for all of us. They were so busy because of all the people without power.
My mom left town about noon and then it was just my husband, Noah and I. We cleaned some of the yard and the house before packing up and heading to his father’s house. He was out of town so we had the house to ourselves for the night. It was wonderful to have power and air! But on Sunday, we headed back home since we both had to work Monday morning. No, the power wasn’t on when we got back. It is 9:47 on Monday morning and we still don’t have power. I am hopeful that it will be back on when we get home since our power company is working on it.
This post isn’t to complain at all. I had a wonderful weekend despite the fact that we didn’t have power. Hayden is having tons of fun even though I miss him something terribly. But I am thankful that we didn’t lose tons of food because I hadn’t gone shopping yet. I am thankful our gas is still on so we can still take a hot shower. I am thankful that everyone in my family is save. Be thankful for what you do have even though times don’t seem all that great. It makes your outlooks so much better.
